Linux News: (FR) Mageia v.6 Released (July 16, 2017)

Contributed by admin on Aug 27, 2017 - 07:18 AM

Just in case you have missed it, the latest version 6 of Mageia was been released July 16. This release is the newest in the long line of Mageia releases since its appearance in September 2010. Mageia Linux was forked from the then Mandriva Linux where the vast majority of the previous Mandriva developers decided it was time to set out on their own path and remove itself from the then Mandriva corporate umbrella. Thus was born Mageia Linux.

Mageia has since gained praise as a solid Linux distribution based mostly around the KDE, now Plasma windows manager. ...

At this point in time, according to this reviewer, if you are running a substantial business enterprise with Mageia v.5 (+ KDE or Plasma) as your business' OS workhorse backbone, I would recommend you wait till further updates and refinements are brought to Plasma (KDE is no longer supported). However, if you have time to install and contribute bug reports to this excellent distribution, feel free to download and put it to work, you will not be disappointed even with a buggy Plasma that is quickly being brought up to speed. You will also be well supported by the responsive Mageia team of helpers and developers on their mailing lists. I for one have installed Mageia v.6, thus far on 5 boxes. Don't forget to keep up with your updates! Enjoy!
